About this course
This course picks up where our Level 1 course leaves off, moving beyond the fundamental concepts of drawing, symbols, animation, motion, and the timeline through to an understanding of symbol behaviours, nested movie clips, interface design, and components
Flash is increasingly used as a video (and audio) encoding platform so time will be spent on working with audio and exporting to FLV video for use on YouTube and other web-based delivery systems.
While a full treatment of ActionScript is covered in our Level 3 courses and our Masterclasses, we will introduce ActionScript in this course, explaining the differences between ActionScript 2 and 3 and JavaScript, and giving you a sense of the power that ActionScript brings to the program.
What you will learn

The course begins with an examination of text in Flash, looking at text transformations, scrolling and breaking apart before moving onto an example of Flash as an interface design tool for creating interactive systems.
We’ll then look at the some simple examples of ActionScript, giving you a taste of what can be achieved and setting you up for further study in this area. The use of sound and video and the process of exporting video will also be presented.
Time will be spent on optimising and preparing output and creating a pre-loader to reduce (apparent) wait times, as well as the use of filters and effects and other enhancements introduced in CS4.
Assumed knowledge

This course assumes an understanding of Flash fundamentals such as symbols, timelines, frames, motion and basic animation. Take our Level 1 course prior to this if you’re new to Flash but this day may be taken alone (or with Level 3) if you have some prior experience and a reasonable aptitude for learning complex applications.
