Quark Xpress was the great pioneer of digital publishing in the early 1990s and remains extremely popular around the world despite increased competition from Adobe InDesign.
This course will examine the fundamentals of Quark for those seeking a solid introduction to the topic. We cover all the major features of the program including its unique document handling capacity, project management, superior image handling, export and import of popular file formats and much more.
What you will learn
We begin with an introduction the Quark workspace including guides, tools, pages and palettes before looking at the concept of Projects and Layouts in some detail.
We then move to the use of text and image boxes, understanding text flow and working with higher level image formats such as PSD and EPS files and examining features such as gradient transparency and access to image layers.
The important topic of paragraph and character styles will then be covered including creating, editing and duplicating styles.
The course will then cover the use of Master Pages and the process of importing documents from Word and other text formats to allow for automatic pagination, numbering and more.
Finally, we look a pre-press issues, exporting to PDF, preparing for print and pre-flight checking.
